Each forty days you will be able to see a selection of acquisitions from the Stanthorpe Shire’s permanent art collection. Recent works gifted include an original Pablo Picasso lithograph and a William Robinson painting titled Trotting Guernsey.

The collection includes works in six major category’s - painting, ceramics, works on paper, sculpture, fibre and historical based works.  

The historical content includes a substantial volume of photographs depicting early tin mining, the fruit and wine industry, sports, and both family & working life.
 
Examples of recently acquired works from the biennial arts festival include those by Mel Robson, James Guppy, Joe Ottoway, Walter Stahl, Adrienne Kneebone and Trish Callaghan.

Importantly, Stanthorpe artists' have also been supported, with works by Thomas Spence, David LeMay and Keith Barnett being acquired at recent arts festivals.

Numerous artworks from the permanent collection have been specially selected to travel to other venues throughout Australia and overseas.  

Recently, two paintings by the noted Australian artist Margaret Olley traveled to the Redcliffe City Art Gallery in Queensland for a major retrospective exhibition of the artists work, and two paintings by Helen Lempriere are currently on display at the noted Helen Lempriere National Sculpture Award at Werribee Park in Melbourne Victoria.

Other major works have toured to the Queensland Art Gallery, San Francisco’s Museum of Craft & Folk Art, the Immigration Museum in Melbourne, Ipswich Art Gallery, Warwick Art Gallery and the National Gallery of Victoria.
