Eligibility

We encourage all visual artists who meet the following criteria to apply for the AiR program: you must

  • be an Australian resident

  • not currently derive their principal income from Stanthorpe Regional Art Gallery

  • have an established arts practice with a minimum of 12 months of exhibiting work

  • hold public liability insurance ($10 million) – this can be obtained prior to commencement for the successful applicant.

  • possess a Queensland Blue Card – this can be obtained prior to commencement for the successful applicant.

 

Key Dates

  • OPENING date for applications is 20 October 2025

  • CLOSING date for applications is 20 February 2026

  • Applications assessed by the SRAG Gallery Director and AiR Committee in March 2026

  • INTERVIEWS of short-listed applicants in April 2026

  • The successful applicant will be notified and announced in April 2026

  • Artist in Residency Program 2026 will be during October/November 2026.

 

Residency overview

The SRAG AiR Program is a 4-week, paid residency at the Stanthorpe Regional Art Gallery in Stanthorpe. It will be held in October–November 2026: the artist may nominate the 4-week period.

It will be open to visual artists who meet the eligibility criteria and will be selected through an Expression of Interest (EOI) process.

SRAG’s AiR Program offers:

  • Payment to the artist

  • Accommodation organised by SRAG

  • Introductions to local artists, art organisations, and local businesses

  • Dedicated studio space and exhibition space to showcase their journey as a SRAG Artist in Residence

  • Opportunities to create artworks, exhibit, host workshops, engage with our community and explore the area

  • Orientation and education about our urban and unique surrounding natural landscapes

  • Induction for work, health, safety, and safe work conditions

  • Legally-required cover in workplace health and safety, tax, superannuation, and intellectual property (see Indigenous Cultural Intellectual Property as per NAVA recommendations).

 

Artist Payment

The artist in residence will be paid in line with NAVA payment standards for a mid-career artist conducting a 1-month residency.

  • The payment to the artist will be $6,891.50.

  • The total fee is paid in two halves. The first half is paid two weeks prior to arrival; the second half is paid after two weeks on site.

  • In addition, artists may apply for up to $1,000 to assist with travel to and from Stanthorpe.

  • Accommodation is included in the residency and will be organised by SRAG
