Stanthorpe Art Prize 2020 Terms and Conditions
Stanthorpe Art Gallery Society Inc. (SAGS) organises the Stanthorpe Art Prize 2020. It is open to all artists in Australia. Any medium of work may be entered, but we do not have the facilities to exhibit video works.
All works must have been created after June 2018.
The perimeter of a two-dimensional entry (including frame) must not exceed a total of 4 metres. Maximum weight allowed is 15 kg. Diptychs and triptychs must either be entered as a single work and comply with this rule or entered as separate works. Works on paper or canvas must be sent framed and fitted with D-rings, placed 100 mm from top of work, ready for hanging. Works not correctly fitted will not be exhibited.
A stretched canvas is considered framed.
No refund will be given for entries that are found to be oversize once delivered — it is the artists’ responsibility to ensure their work meets entry conditions.
Three-dimensional work must not exceed 15 kg. The piece should not exceed 50 cm in any dimension or maximum volume of 0.125 m3.
If on receiving the work in the Gallery it is found that the work does not comply with these rules the works will be neither judged nor exhibited.
All works must be labelled on the back with artist’s name and title of the work if 2D, or on the underside if 3D.
Entries AND entry fees must be received by midnight of 16 March 2020. No late entries will be accepted.
The entry fees are $50 per entry, with a maximum of three entries per person. No refund will be given if the work is not selected for exhibition. The work will not be judged if an entry fee has not been received in respect of that work.
SAGS does not carry out any judging of works submitted. This is done by external judges. The judges’ decision will be final and no correspondence will be entered into.
The selection of finalists is based on the images you supply and selection of winners is done by the judges in person, in the days just before the Opening Event.
Works selected as finalists will be exhibited in the Gallery. All work must be for sale. SAGS will deduct commission at 33.33% from the sale price. Payment will be made to the artists after the end of the exhibition when SAGS has received payment for the work in question. SAGS reserves the right to curate the exhibition in any way it sees fit. This may include double and triple hanging of work.
The most outstanding work of the Stanthorpe Art Prize 2020 will receive $22,000. In addition, the Judges will award six category prizes—three x 2D and three x 3D—of $3,500 each. Other awards include the $2,000 Emerging Artist Award; $2,000 for a Local Artist, (resident in the Southern Downs Regional Council or Tenterfield Shire Council areas); the $1,500 Youth Award; and a $1,500 Public Choice award. With the exception of the Public Choice award, winners will be announced on Opening Night. The Public Choice will be announced when the exhibition closes.
Acquisitions will be at the discretion of the SAGS management committee and the Gallery Director in line with the Acquisition Policy of SAGS Inc. Any acquired work becomes part of the Southern Downs Regional Council Art Collection.
Artists selected as finalists will allow their works to be reproduced by print and digital media in the advertising and promotion of the Stanthorpe Art Prize, the Stanthorpe Regional Art Gallery and the Southern Downs Regional Council Art Collection.
The artist is responsible for paying all freight to and from the Stanthorpe Regional Art Gallery.
Collection of works: Exhibits may not be taken until the end of the Stanthorpe Art Prize 2020 Exhibition. If a sale is conditional on the purchaser taking the work with them, this clause may be relaxed at the discretion of SAGS.
Collection of unsold work either in person or by carrier may be made from 1 to 5 August 2020, between 9am and 5pm. Where an artist has arranged return of works via carrier or post, SAGS will follow the artist’s instructions as shown on the entry form. Works not collected by 31 August 2018 will become the property of the Stanthorpe Art Gallery Society Inc. and it reserves the right to utilise the work as it sees fit. The Stanthorpe Art Gallery Society Inc. will not be responsible for any loss or damage, however caused. Insurance in transit is the total responsibility of the artist.
An emerging artist is an artist of any age who is at the beginning of their career and who has created a modest independent body of work.
Artists who are aged 12-18 years old as at 16 March 2020 are eligible for the Youth Award.
