Stanthorpe Art Prize 2020 Terms and Conditions
Stanthorpe Art Gallery Society Inc. (SAGS) organises the Stanthorpe Art Prize 2020. It is open to all artists in Australia. Any medium of artwork may be entered except those requiring visual display screens or other powered technologies. We do not have the facilities to exhibit these works.
All artworks must have been completed after June 2018.
The perimeter of a two-dimensional entry (including frame) must not exceed a total of 4 metres. Maximum weight allowed is 15 kg. Diptychs and triptychs must either be entered as a single artwork and comply with these rules, or entered as separate artworks. Artworks on paper or canvas must be sent framed and fitted with D-rings, placed 100 mm from top of work, ready for hanging. Artworks not correctly fitted will not be exhibited. A stretched canvas is considered framed.
No refund will be given for entries that are found to be oversize once delivered — it is the artists’ responsibility to ensure their artwork meets entry conditions.
Three-dimensional artwork must not exceed 15 kg. The piece should not exceed 50 cm in any dimension or maximum volume of 0.125 metres³.
IMAGES: So that your artwork is shown at its best please provide high quality, high resolution images, shot in good light, so that the judges can see it properly. If the images are not clear your entry will be rejected. Please supply 2 images for 2D artwork (one full work, one detail) and 3 images for 3D work (from 2 different aspects and one detail). Please provide these on USB or CD and label the files with your name and the name of the artwork, e.g. Smith, Chris Landscape Journey.
If the file size exceeds 25 MB we reserve the right to reduce the image before it is sent to the judges. We accept files IN THE FOLLOWING FORMATS ONLY: .jpg, .tif, .png.
Entry forms AND entry fees must be received by midnight of 16 March 2020. No late entries will be accepted.
The entry fees are $50 per entry, with a maximum of three entries per person. No refund will be given if the artwork is not selected for exhibition. The artwork will not be judged if an entry fee has not been received in respect of that work.
An Emerging Artist is in the early stage of their career, gaining some success, but not yet considered as an established artist by other artists, curators, producers, critics, or arts administrators.
Artists who are 12–18 years old as at 16 March 2020 are eligible for the Youth Award.
SAGS does not carry out any judging of artworks submitted. This is done by external judges. The judges’ decision will be final and no correspondence will be entered into. The selection of finalists is based on the images you supply and selection of winners is done by the judges in person, in the days just before the Opening Event.
Artworks selected as finalists will be exhibited in the Gallery. All artwork must be for sale. SAGS will deduct commission at 33.33% from the sale price of sold artworks. SAGS will not share commission with other galleries. Payment will be made to the artists after the end of the exhibition when SAGS has received payment for the artwork in question. SAGS reserves the right to curate the exhibition in any way it sees fit. This may include double and triple hanging of artwork.
The most outstanding artwork of the Stanthorpe Art Prize 2020 will receive $22,000. In addition, the Judges will award six category prizes—three x 2D and three x 3D—of $3,500 each. Other awards include the $2,000 Emerging Artist Award; $2,000 for a Local Artist, (resident in the Southern Downs Regional Council or Tenterfield Shire Council areas); the $1,500 Youth Award; and a $1,500 Public Choice award. With the exception of the Public Choice award, winners will be announced on Opening Night. The Public Choice will be announced when the exhibition closes.
If on receiving artwork in the Gallery it is found that it does not comply with these rules it will be neither judged nor exhibited.
All artworks must be labelled with artist’s name and title, on the back if 2D, or on the underside if 3D.
Artists selected as finalists will allow their artworks to be reproduced by print and digital media in the advertising and promotion of the Stanthorpe Art Prize, the Stanthorpe Regional Art Gallery and the Southern Downs Regional Council Art Collection. Artists who provide their website, Facebook and/or Instagram details agree that these may be used in promoting and marketing the Stanthorpe Art Prize 2020.
The artist is responsible for paying all freight to and from the Stanthorpe Regional Art Gallery.
Collection of artworks: Exhibits may not be taken until the end of the Stanthorpe Art Prize 2020 Exhibition. If a sale is conditional on the purchaser taking the artwork with them, this clause may be relaxed at the discretion of SAGS. Collection of unsold artwork either in person or by carrier may be made from 1 to 5 August 2020, between 9 am and 5 pm. Where an artist has arranged return of artworks via carrier or post, SAGS will follow the artist’s instructions. Artworks not collected by 31 August 2020 will become the property of the Stanthorpe Art Gallery Society Inc. and it reserves the right to utilise the artwork as it sees fit. The Stanthorpe Art Gallery Society Inc. will not be responsible for any loss or damage, however caused. Insurance in transit is the total responsibility of the artist.
Acquisitions will be at the discretion of the SAGS management committee and the Gallery Director in line with the Acquisition Policy of SAGS Inc. Any acquired artwork becomes part of the Southern Downs Regional Council Art Collection.
