Interview with Sian Medill - Emerging Artist winner 2018 Stanthorpe Art Prize

2018 Stanthorpe Art Prize Emerging Artist Prize - Sian Medill -Earth Soldier

What made you decide to enter the Stanthorpe Art Prize in 2018?

I had heard wonderful things about the Stanthorpe Art Prize, apart from hearing about the prize though the usual channels online our friends has family in the area who saw my work and suggested I enter. What a great suggestion that was!

Has winning the Emerging Artist Prize in the 2018 Stanthorpe Art Prize changed anything in your art life?

Winning Emerging Artist 2018 was such a blessing. Not only did I gain exposure in the press but I feel it also gave me some credibility. Having the chance for my work to be seen and reviewed by prominent people in the art scene, then having the chance to meet with them on opening night to discuss my art practice was really wonderful and beneficial. One of the judges even came to my first solo exhibition a few weeks later.

Where has your work taken you since 2018?

It's certainly been a process, since 2018 I feel my art technique has perfected itself, I'm always learning with it and trying new things with each piece I create. My pieces take such a long time to complete, it takes a lot of will power but I'm really pleased with the results, so it's worth it.

Do you plan to enter the 2020 Stanthorpe Art Prize?

I'd love to enter the Stanthorpe Art Prize 2020!
