Many Fish | Maria De Vries, Tully De Vries, Amanda Watts, Reena Slockee

  • Stanthorpe Regional Art Gallery 56 Lock Street Stanthorpe, QLD, 4380 Australia (map)

The concept of sharing information between people and tribes is represented in ‘many fish’ through the idea that fish travel through our rivers and ocean, sometimes travelling great distances. Many aboriginal tribes are reliant on river systems and the ocean for survival and therefore have a sense of connectedness to water and the opportunities it provides.

The four artists, Reena Slocknee, Maria De Vries, Tully De Vries, Amanda Watts, descend from different tribes around Australia; Gamilaraay, darug, yuin, Gumbaynggirr, bardi/Yawuru and kungarakan. These artworks embody their connection to culture.
