Our annual youth art prize, sponsored by Crisps.

Theme

Our Community: My Place

Our Community: My Place is an exhibition that hopes to capture what is important to you in your community.  If you went away, what would you remember most about your place. What would you miss?

It may be the people around you, your school or your bedroom. Sometimes it is the everyday scenes and sights that you like to remember, or it may be some of the flora and fauna of the district.

Important Dates

  • Receiving Works - Mon 13, Tues 14, Wed 15, Thurs 16 & Friday 17 of September 8.30 am – 4.30 pm

  • Show open: 23 Sept-13 October

  • Opening Night and Prize Giving: Thursday 7 October

    • 5.30pm - Kindy – Year 6

    • 5.45 - Year 7-12

  • Pick-up work from Gallery: Mon 18, Tues 19, Wed 20, Thurs 22 - October. It is very important that works are collected on these days as we have an exhibition that needs to be installed in the Gallery. Due to lack of space please pick up, your works promptly. If you can’t make it on these days, please contact the gallery on 4681 1874 to organise another time for pick up.

  • In the event of any of the entries receiving an award there is an opportunity to exhibit at the Stanthorpe Show free of charge. You will be given a free entry as part of your Prize. The Agricultural Society: Fine Arts will store your work until the Show. If you don’t want to be a part of the Agricultural Fine Arts show, please let us know

Medium

Almost any type of light themed art is acceptable; this includes paintings, photographs & mixed media. For hanging purposes, we encourage works to be created on an A3 size.

Criteria

Judges will be asked to assess the quality, skill and creative engagement with the events that this community have experienced.

1. Creativity and Originality:

  • original concept

  • design creativity

  • creativity with materials used.

2. Quality of the Art Piece:

  • quality of composition and technique

  • control of the medium, quality of the colours and balance between colours and design.

3. Clarity of Theme:

  • how well the theme is represented?

  • is the theme easy to be understood by others?

4. Presentation:

  • display of artwork.

5. Impact:

  • is the piece of art inspirational?

Hanging

The Gallery hanging system requires that each piece must be capable of hanging from the two top corners without folding. This requirement applies to all works both individual and collaborative.

Judging

Stanthorpe Regional Art Gallery will judge the 1st, 2nd and 3rd for each grade (Prep – Grade 6). High school entrants will be judged in combined years 8 & 9, and in combined years 10,11 &12. There is also a Therese Burton Grand Prize.  

Guidelines for Participating Schools

  • Preferably 2-dimensional work: for example, an A3 size with holes in each corner.

  • One work per student - WE CANNOT JUDGE WHOLE CLASS CREATIONS.

  • Two-dimensional works must be on stiff card suitable for hanging using the gallery hanging system per details below

  • The pieces may to be up to 500cm X 500cm in size but preferably A3 size

  • The Gallery hanging system requires that each piece must be capable of hanging from the two top corners without folding and from the two bottom corners

Important: Labels will be supplied and need to be attached on the left-hand side at the bottom of the work.
