In 2022 our paddock was inundated with floodwater three times. After each flood the fences have to be fixed, dams cleared out. The lay of the land changes each time as silt or sand is dumped and new waterways appear. I have used this as my muse for this exhibition.
I use a variety of media, watercolour, cold wax and acrylic leaning towards abstraction.
Like the landscape my art work is constantly changing.
About Wendy
I was born in Maryborough. Qld and after a couple of forays I have returned. I have a need to draw or create. I have been keeping daily journal for years, attend life drawing classes weekly, urban sketching monthly as well as loosing myself in my studio daily. I practice Ikebana and this has been so inspirational in my work, I look for the imperfect branch and a simplicity of design.
I worked as a hairdresser/barber for 50 years, also a creative pursuit.
My mother was a dressmaker and artist. When we were children there was no TV so Mum always made sure we had art supplies or sewing to amuse ourselves. I didn't have the opportunity to go to art school so at age 63 enrolled in a Fine Art Degree which I loved but halfway through realised I was spending more time in front of my computer than my easel.
My art has taken me some wonderful places, attending art workshops in France, Italy, Isle of Skye and Outer Hebrides. I have attended numerous workshops in Australia and have been so blessed to have such wonderful tutors.
Like the landscape my art is everchanging, I like challenges. My art practice has been my best friend, constant companion and therapist.
