Southern Cross Soloist violist, James Wannan is joined by Australia’s next generation of star performers. In this program, two masterpieces by Beethoven are combined with eclectic works that demonstrate how Beethoven's legacy has endured through the centuries.

Hindemith’s highly romantic viola sonata shows the piano and viola at their most powerful and expressive while Smetana’s passionate string quartet creates an orchestral strength combined with touching intimacy. For virtuosity and pyrotechnics, the Passacaglia delivers in spades - the violin and viola communicate in ever-increasing intensity. In Shostakovich’s songs, we see an uncharacteristic lyrical and playful style.
