Leigh Schoenheimer exhibition

An exhibition of new works by contemporary Brisbane artist Leigh Schoenheimer opens November 21 at Woolloongabba Art Gallery.

Reflecting the artist’s long held concerns about Australia’s biodiversity loss, An Unnatural History draws together ideas about visual perception and environmental science. Using still lifes as the entry point to these narrative works, Schoenheimer embeds coded warnings into seductively coloured compositions. Via sophisticated imagery and shifting stylistic modes, these works accelerate understanding, tapping into the historical role of art as social commentary and activism.

Schoenheimer conducts a contemporary art practice from her Moorooka studio, working as a painter and sculptor. Her work is held in public and private collections throughout Australia and is the subject of an extensive case study in the current Senior Visual Art textbook for Qld. (Creative Inquiry - Cambridge University Press, 2019.)

In 2020 - 2021 Schoenheimer’s solo exhibition Iterate I Elaborate toured Queensland's regional galleries, courtesy of Flying Arts Alliance and Onespace Gallery.

An Unnatural History showcases works completed since 2021.

Schoenheimer has previously exhibited at Stanthorpe Regional Art Gallery.
