Pathways | Roslyn Creevy, Joyce Gray & Maggie Brockie

  • Stanthorpe Regional Art Gallery 56 Lock Street Stanthorpe, QLD, 4380 Australia (map)

All of creation has a purpose and a mission to accomplish that: human life shares those experiences. From birth till death our Pathways traverse time and space both personally and communally. Interactions or perception and emotion drive happenstance and ubiquity.

Well known local sculptor, Maggie Brockie, works from her home studio surrounded by garden, bush and boulders. Her inspiration is only a glance away with an abundance of wildlife visiting daily. For Pathways she created a series of seven sculptures which are a metaphor for her journey as a sculptor. From a fledgling artist, reluctant to leave the security of the familiar through the transformative process to become a professional artist, tutor and mentor. The recognition of the aging process before an imagined beyond, completes the journey.

ROSLYN CREEVY

For the Pathways Exhibition, I began each painting with a blank mind. As I lay down each layer of paint and fabric a story would slowly unfold from my subconscious. The challenge then was to recognize the story, or emotion, and allow it to come alive.

Roslyn was born in 1946 in Perth, Western Australia. As a child she regularly contributed paintings to the A.B.C. Argonauts Club, where the painting section was run by the Australian Artist, Geoffrey Smart. On leaving school at 17 years she worked as a Technical Assistant in the Education Section of the Western Australian Museum. The work was very varied and included doing illustrations from the Museum specimens and displays, and for booklets for visiting school children. In 1965 Roslyn married a Geologist, and moved around Australia to a number of mining towns and dam sites, accumulating a family of four children. During this time Roslyn carried on painting and exhibiting.

Roslyn has been a successful artist and has exhibited all over Australia winning several competitions.

JOYCE GRAY

I feel that all our pathways are preordained tempered by the choice of free will.

Destiny lies waiting and fate ever shaping with the ubiquity of futurity.

Our dreams, hopes and wishes pervade our personality as we converse and diverge along our pathways

With others met along the way.

Jay and grief, happiness and sorrow, acclaim or dissent, delight and disaster mingles as a rationale for

Being and thus living is sought.

Abilities to communicate these wonderings, able modalities of speech, vision and dimension.

Do we “TALK” with others of our “LIFE” and they to us; consciousness appraises these endeavours

and life communicates with life and somewhere in the searching maybe “Why is it so “may be glimpsed.
