I am a Survivor: Anne Collins

  • Stanthorpe Regional Art Gallery 56 Lock Street Stanthorpe, QLD, 4380 Australia (map)

Art has been a part of her life for many years both in her learning and teaching in pottery, etching printing, and painting. She was born in Guernsey Channel Islands in 1924, arriving in Australia during the war years in a 50-foot French sailing craft. This journey took nearly 2 years and changed her life in many ways.

Anne says:

“At my age of 98 I feel a bit like the hoary cactus that produces seed in great numbers in doing so it provides a new life. However my seed has survived and provided many more human beings to  populate Australia I have so many great-great-grandchildren I have lost count of them.

“Art has been my life and joy, from a pottery group I started in Mount Isa to printing and painting and sculpture.  Am also in solved in a photographic group with U3A in Brisbane. This no doubt explains why I have reached this active age.“
