In Conversation: Elizabeth Hills from Trek2Reconnect

  • Stanthorpe Civic Centre 61 Marsh St Stanthorpe, QLD, 4380 Australia (map)

Elizabeth Hills from Trek2Reconnect chats about her journey across Australia - all 6000km. The journey starts on January 28 from Rathdowney, QLD. As she treks she will meet and talk to people on the way about her passion and desire to connect with the land and the people who inhabit it.

Stanthorpe Regional Art Gallery will host a talk for the community on Wed 1 Feb @ 6 pm in the Supper Room of the Civic Centre.

The Trek2Reconnect is a journey across Australia. A journey into the hearts and minds of the Australian people. To understand the stories of our diverse communities. To give a voice to the changing environment of rural and remote Australia. To create a forum for individuals and communities to reflect on and take action for the earth.

The Trek2Reconnect will pass through rainforest, desert, urban and coastal landscapes. Over 5,800km, meandering through 32 towns and 24 Aboriginal Nations. Choosing to visit 30 schools to deliver immersive educational programs about the vital role of earth’s life support systems.

The Trek2Reconnect is led by Elizabeth Hills, Program Director at Wild Mountains. Wild Mountains is an environmental education centre. Built in 1999, the founders along with thousands of volunteers have regenerated weed infested cleared slopes to a vibrant rainforest. They have delivered hundreds of earth education workshops for young students with remarkable results.

As Lizz walks across Australia she will be joined by a support crew. This includes her husband Justin and 10 year old son Rowan, plus volunteers and participants for sections of the trek.
