Butter Boy was made in response to reading Archie Roach’s memoir, ‘Tell Me Why.’ A book every Australian should read. Archie Roach and his wife Ruby Hunter (d.2010) were both of the Stolen Generation. My portrait of Archie reflects pain, loss of identity, alcoholism, love, hope and healing through music.
Samantha Moses, digital artist: Heartfelt story telling totally moves me. Everybody likes to be heard and seen. My portraits celebrate the lives and spirit of ordinary people. They are graphic and rich in colour. I use sunglasses as a portal to gain insight and intimacy with the sitter.
