Affectionate and shy, the Pangolin is a relatively unknown and widely trafficked animal. For this mammal its dragonic beauty has become its downfall. To capture the beauty of the Pangolin I handcrafted each scale, selecting a glaze that breaks over the ridges to expose the depth of the black clay beneath.
The Pangolin was created in response to its status as the most trafficked mammal of 2019. To raise awareness of the plight of the Pangolin I have endeavoured to capture its gentle, shy nature and the intrinsic beauty of their plate-like armoured bodies.
